Communities Putting Prevention to Work

To address the growing rates of chronic disease in the nation, the Department of Health and Human Services funded the Communities Putting Prevention to Work(CPPW) initiative as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The Miami-Dade County Health Department was awarded a two-year $14.7 million grant as part of CPPW to reduce obesity and its associated risk factors by creating environments that encourage healthy eating and physical activity in the county.

The CPPW initiative was supported by the Consortium for a Healthier Miami-Dade through collaboration and partnerships.
